Being from Southern California, we feel very fortunate to be so close to Mexico. And Cabo San Lucas is one of our favorite places to visit! This year we decided to take a chance and stay at Rancho San Lucas, a new resort being built by the same developers that constructed our favorite Cabo destination, The Grand Solmar Lands End Resort.
It’s definitely risky to stay at a hotel that is still in the process of being built. We had heard from friends that the resort build-out is a 10 year project and the area was still very much an empty desert. Big sand mounds exist where future golf greens are supposed to be. Well, the golf course may not be there yet, but they’ve focused on preparing for what we think is even more important… families!
So far, they’ve created two pools with fountains and multiple spas, a huge saltwater lagoon, a splash pad play area, two water slides and a rope swing. Already there are so many options for the little ones, and yet there are still so many more exciting features to come.
We are told they are working on numerous additional pools and a children’s playground. But the thing we are most excited about is the winding, lazy river! Guests will be able to spend the day floating on tubes with stops for snacks and beverages along the way.
What’s to come sounds exciting, but what’s already available gave us plenty of ways to fill our days.
Our kids got loads of exercise running up the steps to race each other down the slides.
They spent hours upon hours climbing up the net ramp to get to the rope platform. And they made countless attempts at being the best Tarzan of the jungle on the rope swing.
They joined in the daily water aerobics class, and kayaked and paddle boarded in the saltwater lagoon.
And they gleefully ran under the fountains in the splash pad area, chasing huge beach balls and shooting water pistols with new friends.
The rockin’ staff provides all-day activities like bike rides, ceramic painting, board games and group sessions of the Mexican bingo game, Lotteria. Our little one won three games in a row and was rewarded a free chocolate/banana Dirty Monkey drink. Her favorite!
And two nights a week they have outdoor movie nights on the lawn. The free popcorn was a treat!
Even though we were a little nervous to test out Rancho San Lucas in its early stages, we were so glad that we took the risk! Our stay at the developing resort exceeded our expectations. It was not only what we were hoping for, but way more! Every day they are building and opening more features to the resort. If you happen to make it down to Cabo, check it out and let us know what’s new! We hope to go back again one day soon to see all the latest developments and upgrades.
Disfruta del Cabo!
